... gosh I was looking at the calendar today and thought, oh no I missed it! But thankfully Portland is just a few hours the other way around across the dateline, so there it would still be yesterday, so to speak.
I wish I could produce a newly finished image on the occasion... but I promise, at least, to spend a little time today working on that Courtyard of Roke image today, which looks to me, now, like it is ALMOST finished ... just a little light and shade to add in here and there. Given the topic and the author, one ought to get *that* right.
Instead, I've gone and found a few illustrations of Ursula Le Guin's work by other Deviants:
First of all, there is DappleHack's wonderful recent series of illustrations for "The Left Hand of Darkness". Apparently they are part of a show in uhm - Moscow? Or St Petersburg? organized in honour of the significant birthday, which is pretty cool - I wish I was there!
Then there is Kasienka444's stark expressionist take on "A Wizard of Earthsea: (I think I've already featured those some while ago but I really like them, so I'll feature them again.

And, yes well, I am currently working on a series of illustrations for the Earthsea books myself.
Here is a selection of other images that caught my attention. By far the largest stack of illustrations here on DA are for the Earthsea stories (lots of them fan art based on the anime or tv versions, not the books) which is almost a bit sad - I wish there was more work done for her other writings, especially the Science Fiction books! I've done my best to find some. Oh well - I suppose there is a task.

And I still think these two little flash animations are the coolest:
(though this one was cooler when it had music, where is that version gone?)

Nothing much happened for a while
I thought I might just update my journal before my last entry hits its five year anniversary (I managed this, just).
What can I say. Life happened, not to mention all sorts of political things happened, and I have been slowly dropping off the internet for the last several years.
Still haven't published that picture book. And my website is almost as out of date as this DA account. Too much trolling on the internet these days, what can I say -- and no molah coming out of it.
So I've decided to invest my energies somewhere else. Like, having a life.
I'll let y'all know if and when something starts happening again.
This just happened
So a friend of mine posts a link on Facebook to this children's book illustration contest in Belgium, hosted by Clavis - who appear to be quite a substantial publisher of children's picture books.
So I send in my book about the hares, mainly just for the heck of it and because I needed a deadline.
I'm one of the finalists.
Now I'm scared.

Thanks for the feature -- and for taking time to find art based on the books themselves.
I agree, her scifi needs more attention. I just think her political stuff is harder for people, and the scifi tends to be in that political-prophetic vein.
But that's no excuse for us to be lazy readers.
